Big Upsets in World Long Drive Championship!

With the Open World Long Drive Championship underway this weekend in Thackerville, Oklahoma at Winstar World Casina and Resort some of the big names are already knocked out. With 2007 World Long Drive Champion and long-time competitor, Mike Dobbyn, being knocked by Curtis Urniezius of Canada. Urniezius nailed two drives of 363 yards, while Dobbyn was only able to produce drives of 353 and 359 yards. Also in the biggest upset of the day, 2015 World Long Drive runner-up, Jeremy Easterly was eliminated by Heath Johnson.

With some perfect weather conditions in Thackerville we saw some monster drives on the Saturday. Including Glenn Wilson Jr. smoking one 399 yards; Steve Monroe tied Wilson with 399 yards and also had a second bomber at 397. Tommy Hug came in at 397 yards, and Golf Gods favourite Joe Miller, pumping a nice first round drive 396 yards. These were the top 5 drives of the day.

We are yet to track down a live stream of the event for those who can't watch it on Golf Channel or for people in parts of the world that don't show it. Tomorrow, the Open Division players get the day off and the top 41 players in the Masters Division will take center stage. Competition kicks off tomorrow at 8am CT / 9am ET and by the end of the day the field will be whittled down to 16.
